Outstanding of the Crowd: 7 Key Soft Skills of Successful People

Doing just enough is a bad way to stand out in a crowd. Instead, go beyond the expectations delivering more than you are asked. In this article, you will learn the primary skills of successful people and how to apply them in your work life.

Please write it down! This is a tip that I always give to my mentees in my Digital Marketing Mentoring Program: Be prepared to stay ahead of the curve! Delivering more will always be better than delivering less! This rule applies to customers, business partners, bosses, the audience on social media, and any other relationship between people. People who get more than they expect appreciate you more by building a trusting relationship.

When you deliver less than expected, it breaks the expectation and generates frustration – in the long run; this creates disbelief and lack of confidence.

7 Key Skills of Successful People

I've hired numerous specialists throughout my career, but some skills stand out to my eyes. So I have listed here some soft skills that I think are essential in a Marketer and that I always look for in a professional who wants to work on my team.

Some elementary skills will not be parts of my list, such as time management, teamwork, ethics, and attention to detail. Because I consider those too essential skills and all professionals should develop them early in their careers. You will never excel at doing the basics!

Below are listed the ones that I consider crucial for you to differentiate yourself in your profession, regardless of your current position.

  • Be Curious - The urge to seek out new information, experience, and explore new possibilities is an important life skill for anyone. The research discussed in the Harvard Business Review revealed that curiosity allows leaders to think innovatively and rationally about decisions by presenting more creative solutions in the workplace.

  • Be a Good Listener - Learn how to become a truly listen. Work on the skill of having a deep understanding to listen carefully to what people have to say. Understand what is being said beyond the words. You will excel in any situation if you become a person who listens with your heart.

  • Be Creative - Creativity is a skill that you must cultivate and hone throughout your life. Many people stand out with creativity because they seek new experiences and feed their repertoire of ideas, opening up opportunities that others cannot see.

  • Be Active - Having an active life in terms of exercise and the attitude of realizing your ideas will make you have a productive life. However, nothing is more important than your actions. If you want to stand out, you must act. Standing out often comes from hard and consistent work.

  • Be Positive - Positive people have better relationships. Keeping an upbeat attitude and being nice can really make you stand out from the crowd. Also, stay away from harmful and toxic people.

  • Be Inspirational - Passion for what you do draws others to you. To stand out and inspire others, you must first be inspiring. Inspired people are more open to new experiences and report more absorption in their daily tasks. Also, they are more intrinsically motivated and less extrinsically motivated, variables that also strongly impact work performance.

  • Be results-oriented - The demand for results must come first from you. Whatever your business or activity, you will always need to deliver results! Keep your objectives and key results (OKRs) in mind and focus your daily activities on those directly linked to your goals. Showing results is not a choice. It's an obligation.

Always run away from mediocrity! Prepare yourself and always be above and beyond the call of duty, and you will be respected for it.
